  3. Appliances: Clean
  4. Bathrooms: All in senior addition need to be cleaned; tub, toilet, sink, floors. Second floor bathroom; all toilets, sinks need to be cleaned. Toilet stall flooring tile needs to be cleaned. Remaining tile in sink/shower areas will be professionally cleaned.
  5. Senior Addition: dusting of shelves/desks in all rooms

Will there be any MEN present to help out? If so, there are duties for them too:

1. Closet doors: senior addition, 2nd room from main door, the handicapped room, needs doors rehung in both rooms.

2. Treasurer’s office, basement: new vinyl. This flooring had to be torn out due to raw sewage. Penny will visit Home Depot or ?? to find a remnant of vinyl for that room. A member of the work party needs to pick up the product, glue, etc. to install.

Based on the above list of duties needed, proper cleaning products will need to be provided, as well as tools for the closet doors which need to be rehung.

May 07 Visit Notes

THETA NU HOUSE CORPORATION MEETING

THETA NU, PULLMAN

5/8/07

Present: Kallie Mills

Kay Aiken

Penny England, House Director

Penny was advised by Kallie of our remaining funds in our account. It was determined only immediate, necessary repairs/improvements would be made this summer. Some will be postponed until later. Some cleaning, carpet/hardwood floors, will be the responsibility of the collegiates in the future, i.e. this summer, and not H.C. responsibility. Decision made for the reason the collegiates are using these areas, and should be held responsible. More comments on this at conclusion of this report.

A list of duties for the alum work party 6/23 will be listed on next page. This assignment will be referred to as “work party” through out this report.

1. Room Inspection: Every room was inspected throughout the house. All living quarters were extremely well cleaned, closets, drawers, floors, etc.! Very impressive! A list was made of specific repairs, needed in various rooms.

2. Carpet Cleaning: Penny will firm up the date with carpet cleaners after work party is present. Each room carpet was examined and decisions made whether or not areas were not to be cleaned. Penny will supervise the carpet cleaning to insure only necessary areas will be cleaned. Some areas/rooms are ok “as is”.

3. Hardwood Floor Cleaning: Living/dining room floors examined. They need to be refinished! Due to limited funds remaining, the work party shall clean hardwoods with Murphy Oil, and treat with Orange Glo for shine. No professional treatment will be planned for now.

4. Drapes: Living room drapes are at the cleaners.

5. New kitchen sink: Penny will call plumber to move forward with this addition; will advise Kallie of the cost.

6. Fence hole parking lot: It has been repaired, done.

7. New vacuum: One is needed; suggest Mother’s Club be asked to purchase.

8. Bathroom tile cleaning: Tile cleaning will be limited to only the floor areas in the sink area and showers. No other tile cleaning will be planned.

9. Painting sleeping porch: Our assessment of the walls is that is it excellent “as is”. We see no damage! Painting it a dark blue color is not in the best interests for long term for that room. Reasons: at night the room is 100% dark, no one would see the blue paint; during the day time, anyone present in the sleeping porch would be there for the purpose of taking a nap, and wouldn’t appreciate the dark blue paint; to paint the existing white walls the dark blue color would require several coats of paint, then to return it to a lighter color in the future would cause the reverse.

Penny and Kim, the cook, continue to get along well; the girls like Kim and her cooking. Kadja will return on 8/1 to begin summer cleaning that remains undone.

It is recommended that H.C. consider holding the collegiates responsible in the future for::

  1. Cleaning bills: carpet, hardwood floors and outside window cleaning
  2. Dumpster fee: when the girls vacate for the summer

H.C. to do list:

Recognize Danna as House Manager for supervising the final cleaning. Perhaps a gift certificate would be in order and a thoughtful card to let her know how much we appreciate her efforts!

Gentle reminder:

Kallie, pick up shower curtain rings, mail to Penny; check on dumpster fee; to be responsibility of collegiates; Check all summer utility bills to be sent to the Vice President of Finance.

There is no bbq that works there. Some parts of the existing one were stolen. Mother’s Club is being asked to buy a large one to accommodate Kim cooking all burgers at one time. One is being considered from Costco. Penny will attempt to find out when that might be delivered in time for the work party. However, follow up needs to be made to see if there is one present, or someone needs to provide one.

I will email Denise Garceau to learn of the company who installed the duets in dining room; one needs to be restrung; will advise Penny if that info.

Kallie informed Penny to direct all bills to her in the future.

Treasurer’s office in basement: the vinyl had to be removed due to the raw sewage explosion in that area. Penny will visit Home Depot with room measurements and pick out a product, place on hold. Work Party would need to pick up the product, deliver to Pullman from Spokane, and determine what kind of glue is needed.

Future needs/improvements: Kim the cook is experiencing great difficulty with the kitchen convection oven not working properly. She uses it often. We need to take action to replace that next year if not sooner.

H.C. meeting together in person: Kallie and I both feel the need for such a meeting. However coordinating a good time might be difficult. What are your thoughts? Perhaps we might continue to be successful via email.

Penny was presented a manicure gift certificate at dinner. She was most pleased and appreciative. She will come/go to the house for the remainder of the summer. She plans to be present for the work party 6/23, and supervise professionals who are hired to clean. Prior to Aug. 1st, she will return full time. A reminder, she isn’t paid at all for her work during the summer months. She has someone who has the outside flower pots and will return them to the house planted prior to recruitment.

IN CONCLUSION: Our decision to hold the collegiates responsible for cleaning of the outside windows, carpet and hardwoods is necessary. Not sure how/whom will advise them of this decision we made. Penny was in total agreement of this change. The meeting was very positive. Penny is doing a wonderful job in all ways. She is very much looking forward to returning; has great team work with Kim the cook, and likes Kadja the housekeeper. She indicates she very much enjoys the girls who will be returning, remains very positive and upbeat, takes serious responsibility for her duties as house director and has high respect for the house and its maintenance. We are very fortunate.
